Jenő Hubay (1858-1937)

The Hubay Violin Competition, which serves as the gateway to the Ilona Fehér International Violin Competition doesn’t only go back to the roots but also to the golden age of violin instruction. Jenő Hubay Jenő was not only the mentor of Ilona Fehér herself but also of many of the most renowned violinists and violin teachers of the time. His students – Stefi Geyer, József Szigeti, Tibor Varga, Ede Zathureczky and many others – were the heirs of the deservedly world-famous legacy of the Hubay violin school. As professor of the Liszt Academy of Music, Prof. emer. Eszter Perényi pointed out that „Hubay’s students were globally acknowledged for the ease of their bowing technique and their precision. This is why the broad, full and at all times  – even in pianissimo – intensive and expressive sound became the hallmark of Hubay’s violin school. As it was put in those days: Hubay’s students could be recognised by their sensitive, bright sound.”
